The village is a typical municipal village without a clear village centre, and its primary function is residential.  The village centre is more or less determined by the location of the village hall and the primary school.

The small village has an active population.  The approximately 300 inhabitants have founded and maintain 18 societies, committees and work groups, which are involved in all sorts of facets of life in the village.

Jonkerslân is included in various cycle routes which lead you through the wooded areas in the direction of Beetsterzwaag or Oranjewoud, or through the old heath and peatland areas toward Jubbega and Hoornsterzwaag.
